Office Engagement: Rugby Charity Event

Clearwater team participated in the inaugural Wooden Spoon Charity Touch Rugby tournament at Edinburgh Academicals RFC in a joint Sports/Wellness and Charity event.

There was mixed exposure to touch rugby across the team. With some of our team Googling the rules in the taxi on the way to the game, we weren’t sure how the day would go!

But with a first match win against Baillie Gifford and brilliant play from everyone, the day was off to a flyer.

A couple of losses followed, but the team were getting the hang of it and having fun. The day’s matches concluded with a draw against LGT Wealth Management, which we decided to round up to a win.

Some highlights from the day:

  • Garrett Jones being told off by the ref in game one for doing Rugby Union tackles on the opposition
  • Danny Rapallo’s many skips past the opposing team
  • Ben Sutton flying down the wing for an NFL-style try (and forgetting to put the ball down…thankfully the Ref allowed the try!)
  • Ruth Kowbel taking out a girl on the opposition – sending her across the sideline into the crowd
  • “The ‘Blane Train’ smashing through people like they were paper mâché” – (quoted by Ben Sutton!)

The team had an epic afternoon, all topped off by raising money for the Wooden Spoon Charity who support children’s causes across Scotland and the UK.
